Why is it, when we reach menopause, all of a sudden the food we’ve eaten for the previous forty-odd years makes us feel bloated? One minute, we’re following a food plan that’s worked for us our whole lives and the next minute we’ve gained 10 pounds, we’re not sleeping and we feel like a beached whale. How does that happen?
Elizabeth Ward and her friend, fellow registered dietitian nutritionist Hillary Wright, spent their lives supporting women to feel and look their best.
Then suddenly, menopause hit and they realised that what had worked for them so far, didn’t work any more.
Liz and Hillary set out to find out not only why that happened, but also to try to work out which foods are good for you during and after menopause.
They published the results of their research in a book titled The Menopause Diet Plan, A Natural Guide to Managing Hormones, Health, and Happiness to demystify diet and exercise during the transition to menopause and afterwards.
If you want to know how to get the best from your body as you move through menopause and beyond, you need to listen to this. It’s a fascinating look at the impact of our changing hormones.
(By the way, my heartfelt thanks go out to Liz for her patience with me during this podcast! I was feeling pretty awful and had taken some cold and flu tablets to try to perk me up a bit. Unfortunately, they had the opposite effect because they promptly shut my brain down and I could hardly string a sentence together!)
Karen is a Post-Menopausal mother of four, who loves to meet and connect people, hear about their experiences and hopefully glean a little wisdom for herself!
