I don’t know about you, but in school, art for me was a source of severe stress and anxiety because my work was never as good as everyone else’s. So the mere thought of going to an art class or showing anyone some art that I may have done isn’t something that I’m naturally drawn to doing!

During one of Jane Whittred’s art classes for children, one of the mums suggested that she hold classes for Mums. With wine. So Jane did just that, and the classes were a huge hit.

Then in 2016, her youngest child was diagnosed with Aspergers, he was asked to leave his school and began self-harming at the age of 12. At the same time, a close friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She put her business on hold to take care of her son and deal with everything that was going on in life.

She now runs online art courses with an emphasis on getting the whole family involved, parents as well as children.

I find people’s stories so inspiring and this one is no exception. As a mother and a teacher dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives, Jane’s done (is doing!) amazing things.

Today's Guest: Jane Whittred

Teacher and founder of Mrs Red’s Art

Meet Jane Whittred, best known as Mrs Red, a qualified Art Teacher, with an online art shop, selling art supplies, project boxes & online art lesson which commence in February 2021. She’s also a wife to one, mum to three and a lover of swimming in the ocean and drinking a glass of wine.

Mrs Red’s art room began in February 2011 running one monthly Saturday afternoon class in Currumbin, Gold Coast, above a little art shop. She then began doing a Thursday evening art class for adults in the same space on a weekly basis.

In 2016, the business was put on hold while Jane took some time out to take care of her son, Charlie.

In March 2017, with the need to be around for her son, the business was reframed to be 100% online and Jane hasn’t looked back!

Mrs Red’s art room now delivers Art Carts and art projects to your door, there is an art blog, YouTube channel and an online art shop. Jane is back teaching, via the internet and she LOVES IT!

This has been a week of contrasts: some very high high points and some pretty awful points, too… Actually, it wasn’t that they were awful, they were just huge, and a massive lesson for me. If you
